Exiting news! We are thrilled to share that our project has been awarded co-investment funding from the Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021–2027 program, supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This funding will advance the development and commercialization of Suberin, a sustainable and innovative material derived from birch bark.
Suberin, the protective waxy substance found in birch bark, offers multifunctional properties such as emulsification, texturizing, and acting as a grease and moisture barrier. Scientific research highlights Suberin’s anti-aging, hydrating, skin-defense, and nourishing benefits, making it an ideal bio-based and sustainable alternative to fossil-based materials for applications in many industries such as coatings and cosmetics.
The project, titled “Birch Bark Omega Fatty Acids Commercialization from Forest Industry Side Streams,” focuses on establishing an efficient and comprehensive Suberin production process while driving its commercialization in the coming years.
With this co-investment, we are accelerating research and development, advancing the commercialization process, and initiating preparations for a larger production facility to meet increased demand. The project is to be finalized in 2027.
